Los Fantasmas
Los Fantasmas emerged in the late 1990s in the northern Mexican state of Sonora. Founded by former military officer Javier “El Espectro” Mendoza, the cartel initially specialized in smuggling marijuana across the US-Mexico border.
The cartel’s name, meaning “The Ghosts,” stems from their ability to move drugs undetected and their members’ knack for disappearing without a trace when pursued by authorities. They gained notoriety for their brutal tactics and efficient operations.

– The cartel’s current leader, known only as “La Sombra” (The Shadow), took control in 2015 after a bloody internal conflict. Under La Sombra’s leadership, Los Fantasmas has embraced modern technology, using encrypted communications and drones for surveillance and drug transport.
